Paintworks
Jonas Georg Christensen, Peter Olsen

2019

The Danish word bemalinger can be translated as paintworks. The term bemale indicates and notes the act of painting onto something; either partly or wholly.

In this book, a series of separate works made between 2010 and 2018 have been brought together with related material to create a new work: Paintworks

Besides displaying the Paintworks-series itself, this ‘book-work’ also contains contextualizing photographic material. (In Danish a book-work – et bogværk – can be understood as a printed book, which come close to functioning as a work of art; without falling under the category of an artist’s book). Along side this material the book contains texts written for the occasion of the publication by Carsten Madsen (associate professor from the School of Communication and Culture; Rhetoric, at Aarhus University), Claus Peder Pedersen (head of the PhD School at Aarhus School of Architecture) and Cecilia Wendt (visual artist and former lecturer at the Jutland Art Academy).

Paintworks is designed by Wrong Studio, in close collaboration with the artists. Working in this way it became possible to produce the book as an artist’s edited publication. The book is published by Dokument Press and Emancipa(t/ss)ionsfrugten who distributes it internationally, while Udg. txt function as a local distribution and publishing partner.
